The biggest mistake of a modern architect is to continue believing that your website or service is made for people.
Let's be clear: in the next 2-3 years, the main "users" of your product will not be humans. They will be 🤖 agents. AI assistants, autonomous buyers, recruiting bots, and AI developers who integrate directly into your backend, bypassing beautiful landing pages.
And this is where a 💣 ticking time bomb lies: your backend is absolutely not ready for them.
Why the Current Authorization Model Fails
Today's authorization stack was built around a human in front of a monitor. We are used to the chain:
- 🍪 Cookie / Session.
- 📝 Login forms via UI.
- 🔑 OAuth, tailored for the "front-end" and browser redirects.
But an agent does not behave like a human:
- ❌ It doesn't click buttons.
- ❌ It doesn't complete captchas or forms.
- ❌ It won't "log in" via your UI.
Its cycle: ⚙️ API → Data → Action. If you don't have a machine-readable entry point, your product simply doesn't exist for it. You are 👻 invisible in the new AI-native internet ecosystem.
The New Model: Machine-to-Machine Identity
In the AI-native world, authorization is not "user login." It's a 🤝 dynamic contract between agents.
This is a world where:

If you want your API to become "discoverable," the minimal set of fields in /.well-known/openid-configuration (or /.well-known/oauth-authorization-server) must include:
- 🆔 issuer - the identifier of your server.
- 🔗 authorization_endpoint - where the agent should direct the access request.
- 🔑 token_endpoint - the endpoint for exchanging grants for tokens.
- 🔐 jwks_uri - the address where public keys for verifying your signatures are located.
- 🛠️ grant_types_supported - which authorization methods you support (e.g., client_credentials for pure M2M interactions).
This is not a formality. It is a 📜 public contract that makes your API part of the global network of agents.

Most companies make three fatal mistakes:
- ⛔ Closed APIs: "First, write to sales, we'll give you a key." An AI agent won't write to sales. It will choose a competitor whose API is open for automatic connection.
